Our General Dentistry services

Composite Fillings

Tooth-colored composite fillings are an excellent choice for filling cavities while preserving the natural appearance of your smile. These fillings blend seamlessly with your teeth, helping to stop cavities from spreading and preventing permanent damage. They not only restore the function of your tooth but also maintain a natural, aesthetically pleasing look.

Dental Bonding

Restore chipped or cracked teeth and enhance the appearance of your healthy teeth with our expert dental bonding services in Brantford. Dental bonding offers a quick and effective solution to improve both the aesthetics and functionality of your smile, seamlessly blending with your natural teeth for a flawless look.

Dental Bridges

Dental bridges are an effective solution to fill gaps and replace missing teeth. A custom-made prosthesis is permanently bonded in place, restoring both the appearance and function of your smile.

Dental Crowns

Dental crowns play a crucial role in restorative dentistry, significantly enhancing the strength, appearance, and longevity of your teeth.

Dental Extractions

Tooth removal is one of the most common dental procedures—and thanks to modern techniques, it can be done quickly and comfortably. Whether it’s due to damage, infection, or crowding, we make the experience as gentle and stress-free as possible while supporting a smooth recovery.

Dental Implants

An implant functions as a natural tooth root and is topped with a restoration, such as a dental crown, to restore the function of your teeth, look good, and feel completely natural.

Dentures

Get new dentures or maintain and repair your full or partial dentures. These modern dental prostheses can replace several or all of your teeth with minimal discomfort, providing you with a natural-looking and functional solution.

Root Canal

Save your natural tooth with a root canal - a fast and relatively painless procedure that brings quick relief.

Teeth Cleanings

Regular checkups and cleanings are essential in preventing gum disease and tooth decay.

The Importance of Early Intervention and Routine Care

Acting early and maintaining routine care is key to preserving your dental health. By prioritizing regular check-ups and addressing issues promptly, we aim to minimize discomfort and avoid costly treatments down the line. Our approach is designed to keep your teeth and gums in top condition, preventing small problems from escalating. This proactive care not only helps you avoid pain and unexpected costs but also ensures that you can enjoy a healthier, more vibrant smile for years to come.

Keep Your Natural Teeth for Longer

Tooth loss can often be traced back to common issues like cavities in younger individuals and gum disease in older adults. By maintaining excellent oral hygiene at home and attending regular check-ups, we can catch early signs of problems such as gum disease and tooth decay. This early intervention helps prevent these issues from progressing and keeps your natural teeth healthy for longer.

Save Your Money

Investing in routine teeth cleanings and exams is a cost-effective way to manage your dental health. These preventative measures help avoid the need for more extensive treatments later. Addressing early signs of decay with affordable options like composite fillings can save you from the higher costs associated with more severe dental procedures down the road.

Don’t Even Think About It

The best part of having optimal oral health is the freedom it brings. With well-maintained teeth, you won’t have to worry about persistent aches or toothaches. You can enjoy your favourite foods without discomfort and feel confident in your smile. Healthy teeth are naturally beautiful, comfortable, and reliable, allowing you to focus on enjoying life rather than dental issues.

Contact us today

to schedule an initial consultation & exam.

Your consultation will include an examination of everything from your teeth, gums and soft tissues to the shape and condition of your bite. Generally, we want to see how your whole mouth looks and functions. Before we plan your treatment we want to know everything about the health and aesthetic of your smile, and most importantly, what you want to achieve so we can help you get there.

Frequently Asked Questions

A routine dental check-up involves both a thorough teeth cleaning and a comprehensive exam. During the cleaning, we remove plaque and tartar that regular brushing and flossing might miss. The exam allows us to assess your overall oral health, focusing on any potential problem areas and ensuring your mouth stays in optimal condition.

Cavities form when food particles left on teeth provide a food source for bacteria in the mouth. These bacteria produce acids that erode tooth enamel, leading to decay. Factors like a diet high in sugar and acidic beverages, such as coffee or soda, can accelerate this process and contribute to faster cavity formation.

Genetics can play a significant role in cavity formation. Some individuals may be more prone to cavity-causing bacteria or may have dental anatomy, such as overcrowded teeth, that makes effective cleaning more challenging. However, maintaining excellent oral hygiene and healthy eating habits can help mitigate these risks and reduce the likelihood of developing cavities.

Yes, you still need a filling even if you’re not experiencing pain. Fillings are designed to halt further decay and prevent future discomfort. Addressing a cavity early, while it’s still manageable, helps preserve your tooth and prevents more extensive and costly treatments down the line.

To address tooth decay, we start by managing it early. For initial signs of decay, treatments like fluoride applications and composite fillings can stop the problem from worsening. If decay advances and the tooth becomes infected, a root canal might be necessary to save it. More extensive damage may require placing a dental crown or veneer to restore its function and look. In cases where the tooth is too damaged, extraction might be the only option, with alternatives such as implants or bridges to replace the missing tooth and restore your smile. The treatment path depends on the extent of the decay and your specific needs.

Absolutely! Routine dental check-ups and cleanings are not only safe but essential during pregnancy. They help prevent potential issues and manage any dental problems that may arise. However, if you need more invasive procedures, such as a root canal, they should be carefully considered and performed only when necessary. It’s advisable to delay non-essential treatments like teeth whitening until after childbirth to ensure both your safety and that of your baby.

I’m very happy to have found a dentist office I can trust and who worked hard at fixing my smile. Thankfully they were able to identify and repair previous work that was just not up to par. Their advice has helped me improve my dental well being and my overall comfort and confidence when I smile.

I've been with Shellard Lane Family Dental since I moved to Brantford in 2006. Now I live in Simcoe and I refuse to find another dentist locally. I'll make the trip up to Brantford. Dr Sylvia and the staff are very professional and the quality of work is great. They try to get you in as soon as possible when an emergency arises and are very gentle too. Downside is they don't give lollipops to senior citizens😊
